A Body of Water

Chicago rests on the shores of one of the largest freshwater bodies on the planet. Lake Michigan, part of the constellation of the Great Lakes, is often described as an inland sea. Yet for many who live along its edge, it appears as a vast horizontal surface whose depth, structure, and inner movements remain largely invisible.

A Body of Water is an immersive installation that reimagines Lake Michigan through bathymetric, meteorological, and acoustic data. Across layered textile, light, and projection, the lake is rendered as a shifting environment of depth, wind, and sound. Visitors encounter a space in which the familiar surface of the lake gives way to its submerged terrain and atmospheric currents, translated into changing fields of color, form, and resonance.
